|Religious-humanitarian association MEDJUGORJE MIR - MAJČINO SELO|
As a registered humanitarian association, “Medjugorje-Mir”, has from the beginning been a great support for the “Mother’s Village”. Since last year, this association operated under an altered title, “Medjugorje Mir - The Mother’s Village”. Apart from the humanitarian projects, which are conducted in the “Mother’s Village”, the Charity Organization helps, materially, socially and spiritually those who are marginalised, whether individuals or families in Herzegovina and Bosnia.
The number of people seeking help is on the increase. Everyday someone knocks on our door, seeking help. If we take the unemployment statistics here in Bosnia Herzegovina into consideration (in June this year 2010, the number of unemployed was 511,106), the recession which has hit the rest of the world has taken its toll on us too, so you can imagine the situation, socially speaking. How many people there are on the verge of hunger, without the basic necessities for normal living, without any possiblility of breaking out of the cycle of inescapable poverty and hopelessness, this is something that statistics cannot express. But everyday someone knocks on our door, seeking help.
Thanks to the friends of Medjugorje, in the last year, we were able to provide help over a thousand times in the form of food, clothes, footwear, products necessary for basic hygiene, furniture, financial help etc. The association tries especially to help the old and the sick. About 50 hospital beds, 40 wheel-chairs, crutches and other necessities for invalids are at the disposition of those in need. There is always a large demand for nappies/diapers for the elderly.
Thanks to our friends in Ireland, last year over the Christmas holidays we were able to distribute packages, and cheer up children, some young people and the elderly.
